The department was established in 1965 with pre-University course. B.Sc. Chemistry programme was introduced in the year 1967, achieved the status on autonomy in the year 1998 and it became a post-graduate department in the year 2003, offering M.Sc. Chemistry. The department possesses sufficient lab facilities and equipments. The department has student strength of 300 UG and PG students with a well-qualified set of the faculty members involved in the teaching-learning process. The PG and Research Department of Chemistry also offers M.Phil. (Part-time and Full-Time) and Ph.D. (Part-time and Full-Time) programme were established in the year 2009. The specialized areas of interest includes adsorption chemistry, corrosion studies, Nanoscience and synthetic organic chemistry. TheDepartment has introduced the job oriented courses like medicinal chemistry, agricultural chemistry, cosmetic chemistry, polymer chemistry and environmental chemistry. A team of 17 enthusiastic teachers work for the student community for their development.
