PG and Research Department of Computer Science
The Department of Computer Science was established with B.Sc. Computer Science in 1993. M.Sc. Computer Science was introduced in 1999 and then elevated as a Post Graduate and Research Department in 2013 with M.Phil. (Part-Time) and Ph.D. (Part-Time) degree programmes. The objective of the course is to mould the students to excel in computers professionally excellent. The curriculum includes hardware, design and development of software applications and ICT.
The Training and Placement Cell of the Department arranges trainings on soft skills in collaboration with IT companies and ICTACT. Tata Consultancy Services (BPO) conducted a course on “Skill development for under privileged” as a CSR programme for two consecutive academic years from 2011 to 2013 and recruited 9 students through campus interview. To promote the logical and analytical skills on the students community the Tamil Nadu Government’s Skill development programme was conducted by ICTACT in 2012-13 and 2013-14.
The Department has 8 regular and 4 guest lecturer teaching faculty members and 1 programmer to cater the needs of students. All regular teaching faculty members are appointed by Government of Tamil Nadu recruited through TRB. Among them five are qualified with NET/SET, and five are Ph.D. holders. The faculty members act as mentors, guiding the students to develop the necessary technical skills and soft skills required to become successful person in the job industry as well as in the society. They are also involved in research activities in various fields like parallel computing, Data mining, Pervasive computing, Data compression and etc.
The Department is equipped with a well-furnished computer laboratory with required software for practical training to the students. The department Library is housed with nearly 2463 of books. Multimedia LCD projector and a big size Full HD LED/LCD TV facilities are available in the computer lab as well as in the class room to enhance the practical demonstration classes. All the Staff members are effectively utilizing ICT tools to prepare Teaching and Learning materials almost for all the subjects of PG and M.Phil. programmes.
